Saab gets Chinese funding

Troubled Swedish car maker Saab has received a lifeline from China. The firm, which makes the 9-3 and 9-5, has secured fresh investment from Beijing-based Hawtai, allowing it to restart production at its Trollhattan factory.
The deal sees Hawtai invest around £134m in Saab’s owners, Spyker, taking up to a 29.9 per cent equity stake in the company. Hawtai will also give Spyker a £26.7m loan.
As well as helping to restart production at Trollhattan, the move should mean Saab can now start selling cars in China – a vital new market for the firm.

Toyota Auris line-up gets more kit

Who says that carmakers aren’t generous? Japanese manufacturer Toyota, has just announced that it is increasing equipment levels across its Auris range, and that it wont be raising prices.
The all-new Edition model, which replaces the outgoing entry-level T2 now comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, a 6-speed gearbox, electric heated/folding door mirrors, air conditioning and USB connectivity all as standard.

Chevy Camaro gets power hike

Celebrating the only way they know how – by adding extra muscle under the bonnet! GM is commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Chevrolet Camaro, and has introduced a range of upgrades and a special edition to mark the occasion.
The 3.6 litre V6 under the bonnet has been lightened by around 10kgs, while new cylinder heads and inlet valves mean an extra 11bhp, taking its total up to a healthy 323bhp.

Auto Express drove the original Batmobile back in December – and here are some designs that hope to take Bruce Wayne’s personal transport far into the future!
Cardesignfetish.com has been running a competition to come up with a new Batmobile – with some jaw-dropping results. The winner was Paul Denton with his menacing purple-lit rendition, but we equally love Matt Gould’s sleek effort inspired by the original Adam West car we drove.
